The LIBER Citizen Science Working Group and SciStarter are organizing a webinar addressing the role of libraries in the valorisation and dissemination of Citizen Science results. Citizen Science is an effective way to bring knowledge closer to society and is therefore closely aligned to the mission of libraries. As libraries are profoundly embedded in society, they are particularly well-placed to engage with local communities.
The webinar takes place on Monday, 27 November from 5.30 pm until 7.00 pm (CET).

During the last warm autumn days a second Workshop in the frame of „Urban Heat Stories“ took place in Vienna. On the 9th and 13th October we approached pensioners (age 78 – 82) of the housing-project „Kolokation“ and talked about individual experiences on heat around their neighborhood of the 10th district. Additionally, on 11th and 14th September a workshop with pensioners of the local „Pensioners Club Herzgasse“ in the 10th district took place.
The methodology used followed – as far as possible with elderly people – the common strategy developed with the partner project „Urban Heat Chronicles“ in Barcelona. Collective mapping of everyday public spaces and sensor measurements were the basis of a discussion of individual experiences.
In both workshops, the accessibility of green spaces and the usability of daily routes during heat periods played a crucial role in the discussion. Before starting the next workshops in Spring 2024, the Micro-Stories will be evaluated and a first Chatbot-Pilot for systemic data evaluation will be tested.

On the 9th of September 2023, the TU Wien Library is inviting the public to a day of guided tours through our building as a part of the Open House Wien event. Participants will learn more about the role of research libraries as knowledge infrastructures and our Citizen Science activities. Open House Wien aims to open up architecture, encouraging the public to engage with their built environment. Being Austria’s largest university library for engineering and natural sciences, we will explain the history of our building and show places of learning and research as well as the otherwise not accessible library stacks and roof terrace. In our recently opened Data Visualisation Space (Davis), we will highlight our Citizen Science experiments carried out in OPUSH and show the advantages of data visualisation for urban innovation. The event will contribute to our goal of transforming the TU Wien Library into an open space for every citizen.

During Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May OPUSH TU Delft organized workshop activities at the Maker Faire Festival. With the goal of discussing and co-designing from scratch the upcoming OPUSH CS pilots with citizens from Delft and organizations from Delft community that are already affiliated/connected to TU Delft University. The main OPUSH pilot that was brought under discussion was the Energy Transition pilot, that deals with energy loss in monument-listed buildings of Delft. Discussions with citizens of several backgrounds and demographics was consulted in order to explore the possibilities and development course of the OPUSH CS pilots. The level of expertise was also diverse that resulted in both general and specific suggestions, reactions, and comments.
